Slow Down Fast: Potential Story Angles

Story Angle 3: The buzz about happiness

Is there a shelf in your home or office, lined with titles like "The Path to Fulfillment," "How to Be Happy," "Help Yourself" and other such hearkenings emblazoned across their jackets?

If so, you're not the only one. Bohl was a self-help junkie. For years, he devoutly subscribed to what the self-improvement swamis had to say about how people should be living life. But instead of learning from them how to live happier, he learned some things about happiness gurus.

Happiness and success "experts" may have you believe they've got the "secret" to how a person should live. (What's that about? Can anyone possibly have the ticket to your peace of mind?)

For many years, Bohl was inclined to say "yes." In terms of his fulfillment, he was always just a hair away from having everything he wanted - success, wealth, longevity, quality relationships... all that which makes a life worth living. At least that's what the gurus whose pockets he fed would have had him believe.

But the truth was something he wasn't quite ready to face. Hence, the need for endless instructions from people knew nothing about him. Hence the reason why people are forever clamoring for tips, tricks and pearls of wisdom on how to live more richly... yet they're still coming up empty.

Bohl Helps People Design Their Own Happiness

Bohl calls himself a "lifestyle designer" - but not because he designs other people's lives. He empowers them to design their own lives; he's there for people who want to climb out of the rut of their own being, like he did. It may sound like a trick, but the truth is, he helps others see that a well-lived life is within their own power and reach, and has been all along.

Bohl will never say to his coaching clients is that he "has the answer" or "knows better" about what would satisfy them most in life. If there's one thing he's diametrically opposed to in the self-help world, it's dictating another person's life or attempting to hold someone back from being who they are.

Personal freedom and individuality are critical in Bohl's guidance.

Bohl says that the best part of his job is when he hears clients tell him they're ready to make a go of it on their own.
