I believe that the anxiety that money causes in our lives is a direct result of our fears over economic insecurity. We're always worried about what will happen tomorrow, not today. We've been conditioned to believe in the Slave - Save - Retire mentality (as coined by Tim Ferriss). That if we work really hard and sacrifice today, everything will work out in the end - eventually. The key is to feel secure in the moment, knowing we're doing the right things, and not obsess about what things will look like in 5, 10, or 20 years. David Hayden,

We’ve been conditioned to believe in the Slave – Save – Retire mentality (as coined by Tim Ferriss). That if we work really hard and sacrifice today, everything will work out in the end – eventually. I am married to an incredible person and we haven't had children yet because we can't afford them. Though I don't obsess about money, and am blessed to live in the nexus, thinking about money makes me anxious. I am trying to use that as a motivator. No matter what, though, being grateful for my spouse and our amazing relationship keeps me focused and balanced. I honestly don’t know. I am married to an incredible person and we haven’t had children yet because we can’t afford them. Though I don’t obsess about money, and am blessed to live in the nexus, thinking about money makes me anxious. I am trying to use that as a motivator.

No matter what, though, being grateful for my spouse and our amazing relationship keeps me focused and balanced.
