A Question for the Readers: Are the Attitudes and Beliefs Expressed that of a Republican or Democrat?
USA Today (thank you) published an editorial of mine in today’s edition in response to MBA students take stock amid troubling times.
After reading the first response to my editorial, I am amazed that the reader made the assumption that I am a democrat. I don’t see how what I wrote can be construed as political.
What do you think?

I too am amazed that one of your readers made an assumption that what you wrote was coming from a political stance. This comment is not made to critize this reader – it’s just purely an observation. I think it’s interesting to see how different people see things and how that expands our own views.
To my mind this is a classical example of seeing something but thinking it is something else like mistaking oil for water and shows how things are colored by our state of mind.
I fully agree your points David and think it’s a fine article and very insightful. I do think as well though that the older folks contribution is very often overlooked and undervalued in the overall scheme of things. I believe societies work at their best when everyone’s contribution is recognised even the apparently negative ones.
Susanna,
Thank you for your comments.
I agree that a person’s reality is a combination of his/her experiences, beliefs, and values, and this certainly appears the case here. I know I often look at life through “David-colored glasses”, but don’t see any political leaning here.

You put that rather better than I did David. I was rushing around this morning and didn’t have much time to write my comment.
I often look at things through Susanna-colored glasses too and have to sometimes remind myself of that.
We all have our views on reality which is obviously shaped by our conditioning and of course is only that at the end of the day. I guess if we can remember not to take ourselves too seriously and enjoy the wonderful things and people that form our lives, we’ve got it made.
