March Madness: Cinderella, Tons of Snow, and The Day Football Died
By David B. Bohl | March 30, 2008 | No Responses Yet
Is it over yet?
March hasn’t been a very good month for Wisconsinites. Witness the following:
1. Although our prized Badgers made it into the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, they were taken down by Cinderella team Davidson Friday night in a convincing 16 point win for the Wildcats, thus thwarting an Elite Eight appearance for our home team.
2. This has been one of the most brutal winters for Wisconsin, as we’ve shoveled more snow than at any time, except one season, in the history of snowfall record-keeping. As others experience the signs of spring, we’re still waiting for the ice on the lakes to melt.
3. And then there was The Day That Football Died - Brett Favre’s retirement on March 5th after 17 seasons with the Packers - which sent the manliest of men and strongest of women into counseling for depression. Annette Summersett, a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan and temporarily displaced resident of da Yooper (pronounced duh Yoopur - a description of someone who lives in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula), offers this tribute to Brett Favre and The Day Football Died:
How can it get any worse? Please make it stop!
April cannot come soon enough.

It’s officially spring. How’s the weather by you?
Whether you live someplace mild but rainy, cold, or downright frigid, chances are you’re spending a good portion of your days indoors. Too little sunshine and fresh air really dampers enthusiasm for many people. In some cases, being cooped up for too long can actually lead to mild depression. Experts have named this affliction “SAD” or Seasonal Affective Disorder.
Whether you prefer clinical-sounding labels or simply call it “the winter blues,” this time of year brings on a big urge to hibernate. But since we can’t disappear into a warm, dark cave for three months… many people can appreciate a good plan to keep spirits and energy levels up. How do we make it through the slush and snow to work, keeping a spring in our step and a smile on our faces? Read Post
My Life Balance

“Plenty of snow, but no blizzard”
By David B. Bohl | February 26, 2007 | No Responses Yet
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel newspaper summed up the blizzard forecast by saying that the storm socked the state but it wasn’t the punch anyone expected. Is it possible to ever get used to Wisconsin weather? I don’t think anyone gets used to it; it’s something people just tolerate. Read Post

A fun but frigid week
By David B. Bohl | February 9, 2007 | No Responses Yet
Media folks Dennis of Sky Radio Net and Caley of Waukesha Freeman proved that interviews can be fun and lighthearted. They both had a way of making the interview process easy going. I’m checking out the University of South Florida’s online alumni network for the opportunity to reconnect with old friends and to meet new ones also. A small group of 8-10 people will be available to share work-life balance for entrepreneurs and small business owners.
