Hope for those of us seeking work life balance

By David B. Bohl | March 9, 2007 | No Responses Yet

Many people in corporate America know that because of job security and corporate loyalty decline they will change jobs anywhere from 4 or more times in the course of their life.  Intuit Inc. released a report from the Institute for the Future that examines the future of small businesses and entrepreneurs over the next 10 years. According the report by 2017 free agents will thrive and exert more control over their time and working conditions.  For those of us that are striving for work-life balance and those of us who know we must take ownership of the work-life balance discussion this is good news.

Intuit Inc. has released a report authored by the Institute for the Future that examines the future of small businesses and entrepreneurs over the next 10 years.

Many in corporate America already know that they’ll change jobs 4, 5, 8, or more times in their lifetimes as job security and corporate loyalty continue to decline. Intuit’s study sheds an interesting light on this issue, however: “The line between small and large businesses will blur as more entrepreneurs form free-agent contracts with large companies as a natural response to the demise of lifetime employment. By 2017, free agents will thrive with less job security — they will have clients, not employers — but, in trade, will exert far more control over their time and working conditions.”This is good news for us striving not only for work-life balance, but also for those of us who know that we must take ownership of the entire work-life balance discussion (see my post of March 6th in this blog).
