Work-Life Balance? Not Bloody Likely!

Tom Peters, author of In Search of Excellence, says that “life-work balance is pretty much an illusion if you want to make an impact in today’s economy.” There is no such thiing as work-life balance if it’s all about staying on the Forbes 100 for 90 years (read Mr. Peter’s comments in the contact.com article).

Tom Peters, management ‘guru’ and author of In Search of Excellence has this message for us:

“Life-work balance is pretty much an illusion if you want to make an impact in today’s economy.”

Speaking on a panel at a Leadership Forum at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut, Peters pointed out that executives at General Electric “arrive at the office every day at 6:15 a.m.”I couldn’t have illustrated the fact that the work-life balance discussion is being “owned” at the corporate level (as opposed to being championed for both companies and individuals) any better. If it’s all about staying on the Forbes 100 for 90 years(see Mr. Peter’s comments in the contact.com article), then yes, there is no such thing as achieving work-life balance.
