Felicia,

We can get unhappy and uncomfortable when we compromise our values. To avoid this, we have to learn to say "no". It's then out of our hands as to how someone else will react. We don't have the power to control others, but we do have the responsibility and ability to take charge of what we want and need.

I am not sure this is possible in small town southern America. I have had my supervisors call me at home, ask about my personal life, and share intimate details about there own. This is a common practice and when you try to keep professional space, you are seen as being stuck up and not a team player. I always feel very confused about appropriate boundaries.

Brad,

Thanks again for weighing in and your affirmations. One of the greatest things that setting and maintaining boundaries is that it prevents resentments from consuming us, thus allowing us to be more honest, open, and willing.

Great post David, I think you are right on with your thoughts! It is so important to keep boundries throughout our life, with our friends, family, children, co-workers, and bussiness associates. It is great to have friendly working relationships, but there is a line that should never be crossed.
