I have often told my younger colleagues most "successful career people" had gotten breaks from someone. The time when they were promoted to a position they had zero experience in. Someone took a "gamble", calculated or otherwise and gave the guy a break. I am not sure, how many receipents accept this as a break or help or just assumed they were the most qualified. I tell myself that I'll treat people as I would want them to treat my children. This has helped in "being nice." This is very true.

I think this high-lights one of the fundamental problems in society today - most people you meet are too wrapped up in themselves to worry about helping anyone else, both physically and emotionally. "What's in it for me" is what most people think instead of getting satisfaction from helping another human being. I know of one person who doesn't think this way, and I thank your help David.
