More than a Coach – David B. Bohl’s
Slow Down FAST Program

Years ago, if I said I was a life coach, I’d get a response like, “I didn’t know that could be coached.” Now when I say I’m a personal coach, the response is more likely to be, “Another one?” It seems everyone knows a coach, has a coach, or is a coach.

I like to think I’m different, and that those differences make me a very good choice as a coach, for people who are looking for something a little different. I am not just a coach. I am a lifestyle mentor, educator and author. Mostly, I’m a real person, I’ve learned the hard way what kind of life I want to lead, and I’ve developed Slow Down FAST to help other people learn the same things without going through all the pain.

I did not start my professional life as a personal coach. I was, in fact, a financial trader. I started on this career track right out of college, and I hit the ground running. By age 30 I was a partner in a trading firm, had everything I thought I wanted, and was on track to spend the rest of my life working 80-100 hours a week, not seeing my family, not participating in my life.

And it got worse before it got better. For two years I spent Sunday evening through Friday evening living in New York, working, while my family lived in Chicago. I commuted home on the weekends, so tired I could barely lift my head to say hello to my son and daughter.

After two years of this, I realized I was on a very steep slope leading to an early death – I was not even 35 yet! And I quit. My family and I moved back to southeast Wisconsin, a big change from Chicago and a very welcome one. I began working from my home, which again was a big change. I became a professional personal coach and mentor.

I’ve never looked back, and I help my clients make these same kinds of changes and keep looking forward.

So who am I? In business, I describe myself as a Professional Life Coach, Lifestyle Mentor, Educator, and Author. But that’s not who I am – those are things that I do. What I am is a husband, father, brother, son, friend, and member of the community.

I’ve mentioned Slow Down FAST a couple of times, and I want to explain exactly what that is. I consider “life” to be everything – personal difficulties and triumphs, professional challenges and accomplishments, obstacles in all areas of our lives, and especially growth in every direction and dimension.

Slow Down FAST approaches life from this holistic viewpoint that everything is a part of life. I help my clients work on all of the areas of their lives, in an integrated and values-centered approach that includes changing habits, overcoming obstacles and making whatever major changes they need to make in their lives: To change their lifestyle from one that is making them sick, usually physically as well as emotionally, to one that nurtures health.

I’d like to talk to you for a moment about why you might find a coaching relationship with me beneficial. I tried writing this from a more third-person point of view, and it just didn’t work. Because what I really want to do is talk to you.

That’s what I do. When you become a client of Reflections Coaching, LLC, when I become your coach, we talk.

We talk about what in your life is working, and we find ways to keep those things that are working, or make them work even harder on your behalf. I believe very strongly that positive psychology is the key to effective coaching, and I’m going to work with you to make sure that we know what is right and why.

Then we’ll look at things in your life that maybe don’t work so well. The reason my program is called Slow Down FAST is that many of my clients are simply working too hard, too much, in the wrong ways, and at the wrong things. We identify those. I call myself a lifestyle mentor because I walk through your changes of habit and lifestyle with you, not just telling you what to do.

When I become your coach, I become your mentor, your partner, your journey companion as you slow down – FAST – and develop the lifestyle you want. At times this can be challenging, but I have never had a client who could not do it, or who did not find it worthwhile.

I would very much welcome a chance to talk with you about how we can work together to make your life what you want it to be.
